Effective Communication on Facebook

30 Apr

Facebook

My 3-post series on this topic must’ve resonated with a lot of people, based on the reactions received — on Facebook!

In the series, I shared some recently-employed strategies observed on Facebook, regarding various friends’ networks and policies. Each situation blatantly exhibited not applying ‘best practices’ for social networking.

Much of the response was based on the fact that my message resonated with the commentors, observing similar misuse and abuse of various Facebook networks by others. Some believed it was a good reminder to network more effectively within their own sphere, inspired to establish and follow a more workable plan.

Getting clear on your rationale of having a presence is critical, and should be guiding your every action, to help promote and communicate your message more effectively.

Unfortunately, the 3 cases cited were Facebook users with large, growing networks, all having positioned themselves as ‘social media experts’ and go-to gals for state-of-the-art training. While I believe as humans all are apt to err, an “expert” is held to higher standards, and is paid to provide the rest of us their esteemed knowledge and guidance, based upon actual relevant expertise.

I believe that all can learn by example, and these cases were fertile learning ground. Possibly a Red Flag of Caution flashed for those comptemplating exchanging money for sage advice with said experts, who apparently are not plugged into the medium enough…

The lesson learned by these 3 cases: Don’t ever rest on your laurels, your great rep, real or perceived “star status” and expect your followers to support your every whim or request. In Social Media, the relationship and communication is always a 2-way street.

Bottomline: conversation is what social networking is about. If you grow a large network, fortunately there are tools available to aid the process, in addition to applying a personal touch!

Even while you may have first gained their trust, you must continue to earn the privilege of connection each and every day, with all those around you, in your various networks.

Have you observed or created an environment conducive to effective communication on Facebook? Please leave your comments or ideas, to share. Let’s discuss! I want to hear your thoughts…

Becky Cortino Presents on Injecting Healing Humor in Healthcare at AATH 2010 Conference

Becky Cortino AATH 2010 Conference Presenter

Becky Cortino AATH 2010 Conference Presenter

I just returned from California, where I was honored to be a featured speaker-presenter at the 23rd annual Association of Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH) Conference in Disneyland April 22-25.

With my many years in the aspect of Applied Humor Therapy in the healthcare setting, the Tribute to Norman Cousins, was especially meaningful. A true visionary, he is credited with being the forerunner in this aspect, first treating his painful health condition with doses of humor long before contemporary thought recognized and embraced this powerful therapy.

My presentation topic was based on my AHeart4Clowning book series: Establishing a Hospital Clown or Healthcare Family Entertainer Group — Train, Prepare, Equip and Promote! It was gratifying to present to a wonderful group of interested participants, encouraging them in their efforts of applying healing humor in the healthcare setting. Throughout the conference, it was great to network and share with others in this field! I really enjoyed hearing about other programs and the free-flow of shared ideas.

This is one of the best programs I’ve attended in this aspect. The focus of the AATH Conference is on theory and application of healthcare, education and business, offering continuing education, networking, and fun for professionals using humor and laughter to enhance work performance, support learning, and promote healing.

Held in April as part of the global celebration of Humor Month, the AATH Conference draws participants from around the world. For more information about AATH, click this link (here)

I am available and currently booking speaking engagements on a variety of topics, and would welcome the opportunity to connect with you and discuss your program. Please contact me using this online form (linked here)

The Key to Perceived “Value” and 3 Steps to Getting More Business

21 Apr

BeckyCortino.com MarketingMomentExcuse me — is your “value” showing?

Until your prospects, potential clients or customers clearly understand the value you, your product or service offers and how it will positively impact their own world, your tweets, updates and posts do not reach their eyes or ears. All will quickly pass them by in the stream of messages and ideas, swirling on out into the dark and turbulent Sea of Forgetfulness.

It’s a noisy world out there!

Potential business and customers don’t know how you or what you have to offer could enhance their sphere, because information spewed out in rapid-fire style is often not targeted directly to them, nor addressing their very real, specific needs.

You can be heard above all the buzz if you consistently illustrate the value of what you have to offer, over time.

Relevancy is the key to perceived value.

  1. Spell it out — don’t keep the benefits and features a secret. No one has time to guess!
  2. You can’t “sell” anybody anything; you can present to prospects once they understand how you, your product or service can help them with their biggest recognized concern.
  3. “Everyone” is not your customer. Don’t be afraid of limiting your potential business by being more specific. Not many will buy if they don’t comprehend a compelling reason to even take a look at what you have to offer in the first place. Isn’t your time and effort of value, as well?

Your newest customer, client, sale are out there, right now — looking for you…

Where are you?
